Spring Is In The Air - Flowering Frangipanis

In celebration of the arrival of Spring (Yes, its okay to scream with excitement) we decided to compose a small post of a flower that too arrives in Spring here in Barbados. Scattered across our island are these beautiful, very tropical looking flowers bursting from lush and leafy trees. The common name for these flowers are Frangipani but they are known as Plumeria. The flowers bloom in a bunch all nestled beside one another and can be seen in two popular colors- white with vibrant yellow centers and then pink with the same vibrant yellow centers.

These tropical flowers can be seen in many places in Barbados, from churches to hotels to local's backyards or gardens!

A Taste of Agrofest 2012

The three day agricultural festival, Agrofest, ended last night and we are sure people are already looking forward to next year's festival. With over 200 exhibitors displaying and selling a diverse selection of seedlings, organic vegetables, orchids, crafts and livestock, the weekend was filled with excitement for people of all ages. Not only were farmers at Agrofest displaying their local produce but there were livestock and animal shows also! Take a look below for some of the photos we snapped (in between buying our weeks worth of veggies and enjoying the atmosphere!).

A Real Stunner - Beautiful Bougainvillea

Throughout Barbados you may have noticed the vibrant tropical vines which line the roadside or adorn the small chattel houses on the island. They are made up of colourful bracts (leaves) and flowers. These bracts are actually mistaken by many as the flowers of the plant, but actually the flowers are small, white and trumpet-like and they are surrounded by the vibrant coloured bracts. Bougainvillea can come in a variety of different tropical colours such as deep fuchsia, white, peach, coral and a combination of white and soft pinks.

Bougainvillea is considered a popular tropical plant which partners well with the hot, sunny climate Barbados has!
